To determine how much to charge a customer for an ad in a newspaper, a general role in the charges column inch. column inch is a unit of measurement that expresses the amount of one page of an ad will take up. the size of a column inch may vary from one role to another, depending on the size of paper used and the number of printed columns.

Measure the length of the page that holds the column in inches from top to bottom.

Step 3

Multiply the number of columns in the number of inches down to find the number of column inches. For example, if the announcement of measures 3 columns wide and 4 inches down, you would multiply 3 by 4 to find the announcement, up to 12 column inches.
